And NOTHING Happened

The clock ticks are all I hear.
Boys all upstairs, Rob asleep on the sofa ( he's poorly). I've just finished my dinner, some of it landed on Liam's hoodie, I was cold, so put it on straight from the washing line - back in the wash basket it'll go tonight.

Twilight, between daylight and darkness, I've yet to switch on the lamps. My eyes itch, pollen and mascara falling out with each other. I still have my shoes on, I'll keep them on because the bathroom floor is still wet and I hate soggy socks.

I'm thinking about the robbery which took place at the corner shop last night. The shopkeeper was forced to hand over cash at knife point, a second robber was brandishing a hammer. I'm also thinking about my greasy hair, I  feel about as attractive as Olive from On The Buses lately.

Olive, that's me, that is

The living room was just bathed  a lime-green glow, as if a filter had been put on a giant torch.  Quite soothing. I wonder if I'll ever have a 'sitting room' or a 'drawing room'. Standing only in this room, I'm afraid, and don't even THINK about doodling in any of my rooms. Lounge is an awful word, just like 'turbo' and 'greet'. I overheard a lady in IKEA say that she wanted a "chayze LOUNGE" once. I never wet back to IKEA.

I'm off now, I was so very bored. I typed loads of stuff and deleted it. Too personal.

Sometimes you spend all day looking forward to some peace and quiet, and when you get it, it deafens you.

Has anybody got anything interesting to share!?

  1. Today a lady with learning difficulties asked me to walk her home because she'd had an arguement with her friend - we only got a little way down the road before she found him and they had a loud arguement. That's the interesting part of my day. I also don't think you could possibly look like Olive. Lounge isn't a good word

    1. That kind of thing plays on my mind for ages afterwards.
When I worked with children who had learning difficulties, I often wondered what kind of life awaited them once they left the comfort and familiarity of school life.

  2. We firmly have a 'living room' and boy does it look lived in. Today I was informed by smallest that the chicken eggs in the inkybator at nursery had hatched - they are apparently mostly peachy coloured, although two are green. He firmly believes this.

    1. That's so exciting! We did that in work once, none of them were green, Roosters though - as soon as they hatch, they're crazy.

  3. Hello, nice to "meet" you! Oh look, I'm right underneath Lakota! She's paired us up as swap partners so I've got my thinking cap on.

On a slight tangent, I always wanted a parlour when I was younger. Preferably with a parlour maid to keep it neat.

    1. Parlour - the ultimate room, surely?

I meant to message you last night, but couldn't think of anything other than "aren't you really pretty?"!

    2. Thank you! I forbid any bad photos of me to appear online, ever. It's a policy that works pretty well for me.

I'm in London until next week so only have sporadic net access. Could you email me?

I've found one item so far already, so hoping you like it! Have been having a little nosy through your blog to try and get a better idea of your tastes.

  4. Hi luce. Claud said "two boys hit me on the head" today after playcentre. The hitting and my astonishment at her saying an actual sentence aside, i always use the fact that that she cant tell me if she had a bad day as an excuse to all and sundry as to why shes "mot in day care". Must think up a new excuse before anyone notices.

  5. I once saw Olive on stage, completely nude! This was quite a few years after On the Buses and the years hadn't improved her.

  7. Hello Lucy:
Oh we do know the feeling when in a busy day one yearns for peace and quiet and yet, when it arrives, one is rendered incapable of using the time profitably. Still, time to just think and be is precious enough!

When did the word 'lounge' invade the language for other than hotels or airports? We cannot pinpoint when but ascribe it to the influence of America as that is our usual port of call for blame in so many ways and forms. We never go to IKEA [pronounced IKAYO in Hungary]these days as we used to find ourselves wandering for miles following painted paths on the floors only to end up at the cash desk with a few candles and aching legs!!

Our latest craze is to attend events at the Russian Cultural Centre in Budapest where in recent days we swear that we have seen the perfect reincarnations of Mr and Mrs Khrushchev. Never a boring day here in the Motherland......!!!

    1. Hi Both,

How I laughed when I read your comment. The IKEA shopping routine seems universal.

Your latest craze sounds very stimulating. I do look forward to a blog post?

My days are boring on the surface, but I try to take something memorable from each day. It was a freshly inked, hideous tattoo peeping from a transparent dressing on the leg of a rather unfortunately-shaped lady today. Her 'Gladiator' sandals made her legs look like a pork joint trussed in cable ties.

  8. Oddly, I can't seem to visit Ikea, even just for lunch, without returning with candles of some sort. Wonder why that is....
So, a knife point robbery in Ponty! Isn't that excitement enough? When I was there, we had two Libyans arrested from my course for terrorism charges. It doesn't have to be dull.
And I find that when silence deafens, I need to make bread. No idea why. But it seems to restore a kind of harmony to the household. In fact, I think I will make some now. Try it. It mellows you out.

    1. No bread for me, I've quit. I cannot do ANYTHING in moderation, so it's abstinence or over-indulgence.
I too like to make bread though, only on weekends. It's like a little scientific experiment requiring patience.
Ponty was quite the happening town back when you remember it, eh?

  9. my parents call it a lounge so i've continued.... i've got the day off today and just watched loose women (so maybe should have commented on your previous post - awful tv!!)i'm not doing much... drived to get sadie cat some of the fancy biscuits she likes and changed her litter so she'll love me forever.x

    1. I fear you're on a slippery slope - wine on days off, Loose Women...before you know it you'll be playing Sun Bingo.

I'll forgive you for using Lounge, as long as you don't use 'turbo' and 'greet' at the same time!

I want to be reincarnated as Sadie cat.

  10. Robberies at knife point and green slime your visuals always come busting through your words! Peace and quiet I crave and some alone time in the sunshine will be appreciated this weekend.

My mind is racing today...I'm nervous about spending so much time in a confined space, my car, with a former Governor, she's smarter than I and so accomplished, I can barely get dinner on the table after a long grueling day at work. What will she think of me, what will we discuss? I don't enjoy politics and I almost always say something inappropriate! Will there be wine? Should I wear my red fishnets? Is that too much Krista? UGH!!!! Will you go in my place I know your intellect will impress her way more than my speed racer driving skills and low brow humor.

    1. Why would you say that she's smarter than you?
I can't wait to hear about it, I reckon she'll be talking about you for ages. In a very good way.

  11. Oh your poor eyes, it's not good to be a battleground. And the poor shopkeeper. And even though I know it isn't funny for you, I'm laughing at the hoodie coming straight off the line, on to you, getting spilt on, then going straight back in the wash. (You ought to see my ironing pile, no matter how I try, it's always towering menacingly over me.) And it's in our front room. We have a "front" room and a "back" room. Don't know what that says about us.
I haven't done anything interesting today, Luce. Had to go and collect my eldest from her overnight trip away to Deryshire with school, which she had been looking forward to for MONTHS, becasue she was sick in the night. Life's like that sometimes.
PS. Olive? You? No, never! xxxxxxxxxx

    1. What a shame about your girl - the excitement probably made her sick. Ironing is so ridiculous. I'm sure thatin a few decades school children will be learning about the olden days, and irons will look as stupid as washboards and mangles.

  12. I'm afraid I call it a lounge, too (and in a horrible whiny black Country accent, like Ozzy Osborne on helium.
Loved your description, the lime green glow sounded quite tranquil if you discount the dirty hoodie, wet feet and ailing menfolk. Hope the corner shop proprietor's okay, is that the Keralan family?
What can I share? I've spent the day in Wolverhampton, visited about 15 charity shops, had a bottle of wine in Wetherspoons, got chatted up by a pensioner, ate Chana Massala for tea and am about to watch season 4 of Sons of Anarchy. Rock and roll, eh? xxx

    ReplyDelete
  13. It was the Keralan's - in fact, Saj asked me when I plan on visiting there today.
I'm glad you had a bumper day at the chazza's. Getting chatted up by pensioners seems to be your thing!
Lounge is fine, I suppose for someone who loves the seventies. Maybe it's the valleys accent which makes 'Lowunge' sound awful.

I'll reserve judgement on your accent until I hear it.

  14. I never called anything Lounge.
Oh yeah, I have said "Lounge pants".recreation clothes sound so much better.
My day was pretty busy with Tarot readings today. Oh, I couldn't believe I won a dress competition.
We had some annoying visitors who come over every week. I could never understand that about just stopping by for tea.

Glad you won a competition, did you have a feeling you would win?

Most visitors are annoying (the ones I get) they eat and drink loads, talk shit and never seem to repay the hospitality.

  15. At work today a very old man with dementia punched an agency carer, who looks a bit like a gang member, hard in the ribs because he thought he was being stalked by him. I downloaded a book on to my phone. Not very exciting.

Well, a large part of my Friday was spent lifing bags of clay from one place to another. I told some Year 8 girls off for lying on the tables listening to their I pods when they should have been working (unsupervised) and then had words with the member of staff who should have been in there with them..
Yesterday, I went to a garden centre and bought some onion plants. Rock n'roll, baby!
I'm gonna invite myself to yours for a cuppa soon...I'll bring the cakes!!!xxxxx
